The wife of the Chairman of Matazu Local
Government Area of Katsina state, Hajiya Bilkisu Sani Haliru and the
supervisory councilor for water and sanitation in the local government, Hajiya Hadiza
Matazu,made December 26th,2012 Boxing Day holiday, a real “Boxing”
day as they threw decorum to the wind and engaged themselves in a free for all
fight.The show of shame took place in the office of Director Administration and
Finance of the local council, Alhaji Isiyaku Rufa’i Safana, situated in the
local government premises. It was gathered that the cause of the fight was as a
result of the sharing formula for the state government’s interest free loan
towards poverty alleviation to women and youth which the supervisory councillor
allegedly complained of being side-lined in the processes that led to selection
of targeted beneficiaries. It was further gathered that the
animosity between the two
women became so glaring, that the director (Alhaji safana) had to call for a meeting which included other local government officials in his office including the councilor. The chairman’s wife, it was alleged, burst into the office during the meeting and allegedly rained abuses on the councilor. As the abuses were still on, tempers became high as the chairman’s wife slapped the councilor who also retaliated from where the fight began with each side throwing punches. It took the intervention of the director and some security agents to douse the situation which would have seen the supporters of the two ladies clashing as they were already spoiling for war. When contacted, the supervisory councilor, confirmed the incident alleging that the chairman’s wife used her finger nails to inflict injuries on her face during the fight.
