WHAT A WORLD: DOCTOR SHOT DEAD WHILE ON A PHILANTHROPIC MISSION
A United
States-based financial expert, Dr. Ogbo Edoga, met his untimely death in his
own community, Aku, Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area, Enugu
State ,Southeast
Nigeria yesterday. According to reports, Edoga was in the country
to attend the meeting of Nsukka USA ,
an organisation of Nsukka professionals in the United States to raise fund for the
construction of an ultra-modern medical diagnostic centre in Ede-Oballa. It was
gathered that the victim was trailed by his assailants, numbering about five,
before he was shot at close range. He however died on his way to the hospital. The heavily
armed gunmen were reported to have escaped in a car snatched from a senior
officer of the State Security Service (SSS), who was with Dr. Edoga at the time
of the incident. According to an eyewitness, they shouted at the deceased,
“where is the money?” before they
shot him. The deceased reportedly begged them not to kill him but the bloodthirsty assailants shot him with an AK47 rifle. Meanwhile the police authority has confirmed the incident through the Police Area Commander, Ros-Amson Halladu describing it as sad and shocking, noting that the assailants were hired killers. The police boss also advised returnees to always apply for police protection to avoid future occurrence. Nevertheless, the unfortunate incident has put the town on hold including series of programmes lined up by the villagers for the yuletide, notably the reception organised for indigenous priest and dedication of a new building by the twin brother of the deceased.
