AND BURIED ALIVE IN IMO
STATE
A SLEEPY community in Eziala, Mgbidi, Oru West Local Council of
Imo State has been thrown into shock and mourning following the
abduction of one of the leaders, Chief Oliver Ononaku, who was subsequently
buried alive just outside the village.
Another community
leader in the area, Chief Iroku Nduka, who narrated the incident to The
Guardian Tuesday, said Onunuka was abducted on December 27, 2012 by a five- man
gang and taken to a bush in Ozara, Oru, where his hands and legs were tied
before he was buried while alive.

further told that the deceased had a land dispute with a kinsman of his who
made arrangements for the hoodlums to silence him.
The mastermind,
according to the source, watched while Ononaku was being buried alive.
According to
Nduka, children and relations of the late Ononaku, soon after the incident when
the deceased could not be found, reported the matter.
The Guardian
further gathered that the abductors later opened communication with the family
demanding a ransom of N30 million. which was said to have been deposited at an
agreed location close to where a policeman, who pretended like a mad man, had
been stationed.
“When one of the
abductors came out from the bush to collect the said ransom, he was immediately
shot and arrested.
“He later
confessed to the police how he was sent by the suspect as well as leading the
police to the spot where Ononaku had been buried.
“The body was
later exhumed, while the suspect made confessional statements that led to the
arrest of others.”
The deceased’s
body has since been deposited to a morgue in the state.
When contacted,
the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO). Mr. Vitalis Onugu said he was
outside the state on another assignment.
